Many of us celebrate Easter, and there are many different ways to celebrate, many different religions. One of the religions that many of us follow is Christianity. But how do Christians celebrate Easter?
Easter is celebrated to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Why did Jesus Christ die on the cross for us? Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, allowing us to be forgiven and reconcile with God. How do Christians celebrate Easter? They celebrate Easter through various traditions, including attending special church services, often sunrise services, and participating in Holy Week. Other ways that Christians celebrate Easter are doing fun activities like decorating eggs (by painting eggs from the grocery store). Easter is usually celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox.
In Hinduism, Lord Krishna, a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu is considered a prankster. He would play pranks on village girls by spraying them with water and colors. This year from March 13-14th, people in India and around the world celebrate Holi, or the Festival of Colors. On this day, the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Phalguna, social status is set aside and people have a bis party throwing colored powder at each other and spraying each other with water. For the people of Islam (Muslims), one of their most major holiday, Eid Al-Fitr, celebrates the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar, this is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. This is the month that Muslims believe is when the Quran was given to the prophet Muhammed. This year, it was March 1 to March 29. As long as you are an adult, and not ill, traveling, elderly and others, you have to fast. Muslims fast from dawn (Fajr) to sunset (Maghrib), the pre-dawn meal is called Sahur and the nightly meal is called Ifitar. The rewards of fasting are believed to be greater during this holy month. Muslims don’t only abstain from food and drinks, but anything sinful like smoking. Ramadan as one of the 5 Pillars of Islam is something obligatory, something you can not pass on unless you have a good reason (a child, sick, etc). If you do so, you’d be committing a major sin. Ramadan is a time for happiness and joy in the Islam community.

In the Jewish Faith, one of their most celebrated holidays is Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew. Passover celebrated when the Israelites were liberated from the Egyptians’ slavery. Passover was celebrated the evening of April 12 to April 20 of this year. The Passover story is recounted at the Passover Seder, a ritual feast at the start of Passover. The Passover story, rephrased is this:
Moses, a prophet in Jewish faith, was tending to a flock of his father-in-law's sheep, when he saw a burning bush in Mount Sinai. Moses was astounded by how the bush, even though it was on fire, wasn’t consumed by the flames. When Moses came closer to the bush and Yahweh, the God of the Isrealites, commanded him to confront the Pharaoh in that time, to let the Israelites to be liberated. Moses gave 5 excuses. Yahweh still sends him out, and Moses brings his brother Aaron along with him. Aaron and Moses both confront the Pharaoh about his wrongdoings but the Pharaoh believing the Israelites will rise up against him still kept them as slaves. Since the Pharaoh refused, Yawheh sent out the first of the ten plagues soon to come. Any type of water would be turned to blood, the Nile River, any jars of water were all turned. The fish in the Nile died, and the Egyptians could not drink. The Egyptians dug the bank of the Nile River which still had pure water. The plague dissipated after one week. The Pharaoh didn’t allow the Israelites free. Yahweh sent out frogs to emerge from the Nile, gnats to emerge from the ground, death to Egyptian livestock, boils to Egyptians and their livestock, thunderstorm and hail, a locust storm, and three days of total darkness. The Pharaoh still did not let the Isrealites free, even through all this carnage. The Lord sent out the final plague, the death of every Egyptian firstborn at midnight. Moses told the Isrealites to mark their doors with a lamb’s blood, so the Angel of Death will ‘pass over’ their homes. The Pharaoh, stricken with grief, ordered the Isrealites to leave, for them to take whatever they want, and for Moses to bless him.
