Yearbook club has finally ended, as it's getting closer to the end of the year when yearbooks are going to be coming out. Unfortunately, you can't order them anymore. Hopefully, there will be some spare yearbooks so ask Ms.Lesko if you want one. We had wonderful people work on this yearbook and we are so grateful to have them. The theme for this yearbook is…. ( a secret). Also there was a winner for the cover of the yearbook. Stay tuned for this wonderful yearbook which everyone will love.

Attention, Attention Attention!
Do you love exploring different kinds of books? Do you love reading? Do you love a little friendly competition? What about all of the above? If you said yes to the last question, there’s a specific place for you! It’s called Battle of the Books! Don’t worry if you need more information. It's all right here.
Battle of the Books (BoB) is an exciting reading competition for middle school students who love books and a little friendly competition! Students read from a list of selected titles and test their knowledge by answering trivia-style questions. For example, "In what book does a boy receive a letter from Hogwarts?" The correct answer: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. Each answer is worth 3 points—2 for the correct title and 1 for the correct author.
Students interested in joining BoB should pick up a list of the year's books from the IMC at the beginning of the school year. Then, they attend the Informational Meeting in January and fill out a participation form. Tryouts are then held, and students who correctly answer the most questions earn a spot on the DMS Battle of the Books Team.
Team practices usually begin in February and run through May, taking place before or after school.
On Apr 24, 2025, BoB held one of its competitions in DMS. One of the participants, Lilian (Lily) Knapp, when interviewed about how she felt about BoB, said that it was a bit challenging, but she enjoyed being in it, as it can be rewarding.
The competition style itself is similar to Jeopardy. Kids randomly choose a question, and if they can’t answer the question, they can choose another question from a different book.
Once the team is selected, members work together to prepare for spring competitions against other District 300 middle schools such as WCS, HMS, CMS, and AMS. All official meets happen during school hours, and students must stay on top of any missed classwork.
You will enjoy a lot of benefits in Battle of the Books. It can improve your vocabulary, your writing style, and expose you to a lot of genres of books.

GOALLLLLLL!!!!!!! The Intramural Soccer club was back for 2025! The 6th-8th grade boys and girls who signed up either have been playing for a while or have no experience and are ready to learn. The whole idea of this club is to practice and get better at soccer skills while playing the game.
Notes for students who join soccer:
Come to school bright and early between 7:15 a.m and 7:30 a.m, not before.
When you arrive, WAIT for Mrs. Benge or Mr. Godfrey to arrive to head into the gym
Bring your own water bottle and leave it in the locker room so it doesn't spill when playing.
Wear athletic clothes , and bring a change of clothes! (You can wear your PE uniforms during game time)
We don’t want you stinky during the day; PLEASE bring deodorant
LOCK UP your stuff, we don’t want it being stolen
Wear shin guards (shin splints aren’t fun).
Wear gym shoes, indoor or turf shoes, NO CLEATS! If you don’t have turf shoes you don’t need to buy them unless you really want to. NO CROCS!
If you like soccer, make sure to listen to announcements or read them from your daily emails next spring.

What is badminton? Well, badminton is a game played by 300 million people around the world. Our school has their own intramural badminton team, and we know the rules.
Badminton is played with a birdie or shuttlecock, and you hit it over a net with a racket. If you go out of bounds you are out. The most famous badminton league is the Badminton World Federation. People internationally love the game, and we hope other people enjoy it too.
