PROM 2025
Congratulations to our retirees!
Thank you for your impactful tenure at Andrew High School.
What will you miss most about Andrew?
Andrew has held a special place in my heart because I was a student here and my parents taught here, I have coached, sponsored clubs and activities and taught here. All the memories of students and staff members I have worked with will stay with me–but I will miss all the “nexts” for the people I will no longer see everyday.
If you could rule the world, what would be the first thing that you would change?
Honestly, I would change the work days for students and staff. I think 4 days a week would benefit people more than the current schedule. With everything students and staff juggle everyday, they race through life. Everything is crammed into smaller time units. By making the days a little longer, teachers could spend more time teaching and assigning quality activities and have more time to devote to work and family.
What is your favorite Andrew memory?
Anything Special Olympics– especially winning 2 basketball State Championships with our Traditional Teams and 3rd place in State with our Unified Teams. The kids are so fun to coach!
What do you have planned for after ‘graduation’?
I’m not sure yet. I have H.S. aged kids so I will spend more time with them as well as my dogs. I like the idea of not having to be locked in to a schedule everyday.
If you had a time machine, to what time period would you travel and why?
I might return to the 1980s because I could visit with family members who are no longer here.
What TV show have you seen pretty much every episode of?
Probably not something to brag about, but I have watched every episode of Law and Order–all versions.
Do you have any hobbies that you could tell us more about?
I love to bake–anything–but everyone wants me to make chocolate chip cookies all the time. But, I really can make other things.
Is there a quote that you live your life by and / or would like to share with the readers of The Circuit?
“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” Albert Einstein
What will you miss most about Andrew?
The staff and students. They have lifted me up even in my darkest moments.
If you could rule the world, what would be the first thing that you would change?
Bring an end to the wars and then bring food and clean water to the countries that need it.
What is your favorite Andrew memory?
My favorite Andrew memory is starting the TEP Program for the Special Ed students. I was so honored to be picked to be the person to pioneer the program and I was able to continue to be a part of the program for 12 years.
What do you have planned for after ‘graduation’?
If you had a time machine, to what time period would you travel and why?
Continuing with my Real Estate career, visiting my grandson in North Carolina, and going to my home in Michigan.
What TV show have you seen pretty much every episode of?
1920s. I love the fashion.
Do you have any hobbies that you could tell us more about?
I love selling real estate and that to me is more of a hobby than a job.
Is there a quote that you live your life by and / or would like to share with the readers of The Circuit?
“Everyone smiles in the same language.”
Special Services Paraprofessional
What will you miss most about Andrew?
I will miss my friends and the students. Every day is different with a new challenge and yet every day makes me happy to see students wanting to give back in the community.
If you could rule the world, what would be the first thing that you would change?
I would find the cure for mental health. I believe everyone has a little bit of a struggle and we need to figure out how to manage this better as a society.
What is your favorite Andrew memory?
Some of my favorite memories are Andrew Fest, Andrew Staff’s Got Talent, staff Halloween costume contests and the Marching Thunderbolts/Winter Percussion!
What do you have planned for after ‘graduation’?
My plan is to spend more time with family, friends and my grandbaby, plus I will be moving to Texas in the next few years.
If you had a time machine, to what time period would you travel and why?
I’m a 70s girl! I love that lava lamps, bell bottom jeans, laid-back music and wild colors are coming back. It was such a great time to be a teenager and we need to teach our kids how to control their vibe!
What TV show have you seen pretty much every episode of?
I love murder and drama so I’d say The Sopranos. I’ve seen the entire series probably three times.
Do you have any hobbies that you could tell us more about?
I don’t have any hobbies but once I’m retired I’m going to try everything, so if you have any suggestions, please stop by my office immediately so I can take some notes.
Is there a quote that you live your life by and / or would like to share with the readers of The Circuit?
You don’t always need a plan, only a direction.

For the last time, hello readers! After the four years of “how to…” articles and “tips for...” I’m sure you’re sick of hearing from me by now. If you aren’t, fortunately for you, I have a few last remarks on my time here at Andrew.
If I’ve learned anything from this club and my experience in high school, I would say the most important lesson I’ve learned is to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. At the beginning of my freshman year I was really anxious about coming to school all the time, and found a lot of negativity within my school life. Senior year, I can now proudly say that my situation has completely changed by a landslide. I’ve been able to branch out and meet new people, find careers of interest, and understand the perspectives of other people. Listening to others has truly helped me become more grounded in my identity and grateful for little moments.
Next year, I plan on attending the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and I cannot be more excited! I will be majoring in psychology, with the hopes of becoming a clinical psychologist, or even taking my studies as far as psychiatry. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend such an amazing university, and I plan to take full advantage of the chance that I have to help others within my field of work.
Lastly, I’d like to thank Mrs. Brady and Mrs. Scott for absolutely everything they’ve helped me with. From recommendations for leadership positions, to late submissions, and even making coffees together at Andrew Fest, there hasn’t been a single moment in all four years of high school where I felt like I couldn’t rely on them. They work incredibly hard and demonstrate a sense of profound humility everyday, amongst many other traits I hope to develop from them. I appreciate anyone who has shared, been surveyed, and most importantly, read The Circuit in the past four years. For you, I have one more piece of advice: KEEP READING!
Senior Staff: Elisabeth Skorupa, Editor-in-Chief
As a freshman at Victor J Andrew High School, I was overwhelmed. There were so many opportunities to take advantage of, and so many people to meet. However, one of my favorite parts of high school was being a member of The Circuit Newspaper.
When I was younger, I remember watching Gilmore Girls and dreaming of experiencing the excitement of journalism like Rory Gilmore. When I first arrived at VJA, I simply knew I had to take my chance at writing, and I am so thankful for the community I found. The Circuit Newspaper has given me a new family to cherish, and it is so difficult to leave them as I take my next steps on my academic journey,
After graduation, I will be attending the University of Florida as I major in biology on a pre-medical track! I am so excited to explore this new chapter of my life and hopefully continue to be involved in journalism and the UF newspaper.
Before I say my final goodbyes, I would like to leave a few pieces of advice. Starting off, I would like to remind everyone to be unapologetically, uniquely, you. High school is whatever you decide it to be. Whether you are interested in athletics, theater, or clubs, take a chance and join extracurriculars! My after-school activities brought me so many new friends and unforgettable moments that I couldn’t have experienced anywhere else. Your unique personality encourages personal growth and allows you to fully embrace your personalized high school experience and you make important choices and connections.
Finally, I would like to thank my fellow staff writers who worked tirelessly against deadlines and helped to create a beautiful edition of The Circuit Newspaper each month. In addition, I would also like to thank Mrs. Brady and Mrs. Scott for being the most welcoming and supportive sponsors I could have ever asked for. They truly inspired me to reach my dreams and created a safe environment for me to reach out and realize my full potential. Ever since my freshman year, they have always been there for me, and I will miss them more than I could ever express.
Thank you to every reader who shared their time to read my articles and to the entire VJA community. I could never have become the person I am today without my T-Bolt family!

Victor J. Andrew Food Pantry and Library Open for Business
Andrew High School now has more to offer the community: a food pantry and an outdoor library.
Mrs. Gibson, health teacher and coach, came up with the idea of the food pantry with the purpose of giving people in need access to food. “The idea came to me when I saw a micro-pantry in my town. I thought to myself, ‘This would be really cool to have at school. The idea is to take what you [students, family, community] need and leave what you don’t.’”
Food pantries are spreading across the country as grocery prices and unemployment continue to rise. More opportunities should be available for communities to be able to have access to basic necessities. Thanks to Mrs. Gibson, we are one step closer.
Interestingly enough, Andrew senior, Giuliana Rubio, also came up with an idea to benefit our students and community- an outdoor library. As a member of the Book Club at Andrew, she presented her idea to her sponsor, Ms. Cooler, who brought the idea forward.
Once it was clear that these two ideas could work together, Mr. Cassidy and the Woods class stepped in. They built the pantry and library side by side and it is now open to the public. You can access both in the front of the school (lakeside), and it is available for anyone to take and drop things off. This is a judgement free zone; take what you need. Clubs, sports, and other activities at VJA will also make sure that the pantry is filled and thriving.
Giuliana Rubio poses by the new pantry and library.

This is it. The final article of the school year. As the school year draws to a close, I wanted to take a brief moment to reflect on this year in The Circuit—and what a year it's been. I could not have asked for a warmer welcome from newspaper sponsors Mrs. Brady and Mrs. Scott and Circuit staff members and (now) new friends like James, Shelby, and Gracie. That was only the beginning, though. There were many great memories made throughout the year, like going to the SWSC Newspaper Conference and meeting one of my personal idols, Demetrius Ivory. Even though, at times, writing these articles could be a lot of work, it was all well worth it, especially because of how much I felt like I belonged here. For that, I wanted to thank everyone here at The Circuit, and of course all of you, our readers, for giving our articles purpose. That being said, I wanted to congratulate all of our readers for making it through another school year, and seniors for making it through high school and graduating. Congratulations! Although, just because the school year is over, doesn’t mean that the Formula 1 season is over! There is plenty of action to be had on track, so allow me to guide you through the rest of May’s races, my personal favorite summer races, and more!
Miami Race Recap & Breaking News! Following an exciting Miami Grand Prix with Max Verstappen qualifying on pole (1st) battling with the two McLarens on the opening laps, a few retirements from the race being Bearman, Bortoleto, Lawson, and Doohan, Safety Car action, and a McLaren 1-2 masterclass, the Formula 1 world was shocked once more after the news of Alpine F1 Team’s reorganization was announced, including a driver swap from Jack Doohan being a main driver for the team to Franco Colapinto being one. Jack Doohan is now the reserve (back-up) driver for the team, after only six races to prove himself. Doohan had been an academy and development driver for the team for years, already, awaiting his opportunity to prove himself as the team’s prodigy. However, the team did not sufficiently support him, despite them having trained him for years, they opted for a slightly more experienced, younger driver seen in Franco Colapinto. Many fans expected this to happen but were simply waiting for when it would happen. Many are, reasonably, critical of Alpine’s actions. The question now is; will Colapinto perform well enough for Alpine’s liking, or will he exhaust his contract length of five races before he, too, is replaced? Find out, in the coming…
May Races Just this weekend is the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy. The circuit is notorious for its tricky layout, with many chicanes (left-right or right-left corners followed in quick succession) making it hard to pass. It also has a very distinct corner, called Acque Minerali, which is a medium-speed right hand corner with elevated banking. The race is on Sunday, May 18th at 8:00 AM. The following week is the EXTREMELY prestigious and historic Monaco Grand Prix. The Monaco Grand Prix has been on the Formula 1 calendar ever since the sport’s founding in 1950. It is a very tight street circuit, rendering it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to pass during the race, making qualifying the most important session of the weekend. Since the circuit is so tight (and historic), the race is as prestigious as some other races you may have heard of like the Indy 500, or the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Qualifying is on May, 24th at 9:00 AM and the race is the following day May, 25th at 8:00 AM. You surely wouldn’t want to miss such a prestigious event!
Now, it’s time for my personal F1 Summer Race Favorites Where to start? I’d say the most recent. That would be the Austrian Grand Prix happening on the 29th of June at 8:00 AM in Spielburg, Austria. This is a fantastic track for racing and overtaking, as the track is host to three DRS zones and all types of corners! Whilst not very accident prone, if you’re a fan of fast, hard racing with nail-biting battles, this is most certainly the race to watch for you! The following week, F1 travels to another one of my favorite races; the British Grand Prix. The British Grand Prix happens in Silverstone, UK and it houses one of the most historic and high speed circuits; the Silverstone Circuit. This Grand Prix, like Monaco, has been on the Formula 1 calendar ever since the sport was founded in 1950. However, unlike Monaco, this circuit’s layout has evolved over the years to best suit the cars as they evolve. Now, like I said, the circuit has some of the most high speed corners on the calendar from Copse corner (turn 9) to the Maggots and Becketts corner complex (turns 10-14). With two DRS zones, and the way the circuit was designed, this track is another GREAT track for fast, hard racing with overtakes aplenty to come. The race is on July, 6th at 9:00 AM. Finally, this list concludes with another fast, historic track/race, the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit. It’s located in Francorchamps, Belgium and has also been on the Formula 1 calendar since the sport’s founding in 1950. It is currently the longest track on the F1 calendar spanning 4.352 miles, however, back then, the track used to be 9.258 miles long which is over double the length it is today! For context, that is such a long track, that when public roadways were used to complete the track, it spanned the length of three different towns! Most of the circuit’s corners are high-speed, with the most notable eau rouge-raidillon corners, which include an ever-so-slight left corner (eau rouge) before a longer right-hand corner that skyrockets upward, in terms of elevation (raidillon). It’s also a sprint race (explained in October’s edition), which to credit the FIA, (the governing body of the sport) this was an excellent choice in making a sprint race, since the high-speed layout with two DRS zones provide for some more exhilarating racing action. The sprint race is on Saturday, July 26th at 5:00 AM and later, the same day, qualifying for the race is at 9:00 AM. The next day, Sunday, July 27th is when the race is, at 8:00 AM.
My First Ever F1 Race That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, I thought this was an appropriate way to end the last article of the year by mentioning an exciting memory I am soon to have of…the first ever Formula 1 race I will be attending!!! This summer, I will be heading to CANADA for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Quebéc, Canada on a road trip!! First, we (my family and I) will make a one night pit stop in Niagara falls, on the way there to:
1. see Niagara Falls during the day
2. take a boat tour through the falls and to the Horseshoe falls (look up if you need to)
3. see the Niagara Falls at night, and
4. visit the Skylon Observation Tower to see the falls from above.
Following our stay at Niagara Falls we will be back on the road stopping in Ottawa, Canada; the country’s capital. Finally, of course, we will stay at a hotel by the F1 track to explore Montreal, and obviously, to enjoy some F1 racing action! We have tickets for all three days, so maybe you’ll be able to tune into the live feed and see my family and I at the track in a crowd shot! The race weekend is the 13th-15th of June and on Friday, June 13th are the free practice sessions, with Free Practice 1 happening at 12:30 PM-1:30 PM. A few hours later is Free Practice 2 happening at 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The next day, Saturday, June 14th is Free Practice 3 happening at 11:30 AM-12:30 PM. Following that, (on the same day) is qualifying at 4:00 PM. Finally, Sunday, June 15th is race day, with the race starting at 1:00 PM. As per usual, all time zones are in CDT (Central Daylight Time; Illinois and Mid-Western time), and I’ll be sure to take PLENTY of pictures from my trip to let you all know how my trip went in a bonus second article in September. You’ll just have to stay tuned until then! That’s all for this month. Thank you all, again, for an amazing year. See you all again in September!
