This group continues to improve every week, top to bottom.
3/3 PR's today:
Jon Young (1st Var): 48-2*
Tommy Barrett 41-0*
Micael Tarasiewicz: 38-2
Props for the hard work these guys and Coach Garbrecht put in day in and day out with such limited space for practice. We hope to get outside more this month!
The Freshman football and basketball player has had two jumps practices so far.
First meet: 5-2
Today: 5-9
Jordan Vela (2019 IHSA All-State, Varsity School Record Holder) holds the freshman school record at 5-11. Dionte thought he cleared 5-11 today before the bar fell off as he was getting off the mat. Is the FS record of 6-2 set by Austin Kulig last year already in jeopardy?? Sky's the limit for this kid.
Mike Barberi had a fantastic rookie sophomore season, highlighted by his 51.3 split in the 4x4 at Sectional. Mike had grueling football and wrestling seasons, dealing with a high ankle sprain, a dislocated thumb, and a concussion. It took him a couple of weeks to get back into the swing of things, but today was a resounding sign that he is back. Mike lead off the 4x2 with a fast 24.2 split, and followed it up with a 55.2 split in the 4x4. Mike will anchor the 4x4 at the Mustang Relays on Monday night. Expect fireworks.
400m specialist Tony Ryan has been asking to try LJ for some time now. With a team of 120+, it's hard to find spots for everyone. Today, Tony got his wish to try out Long Jump, and I think he may be onto something. On the first LJ attempt of his life, Tony jumped 19-5, which places his #2 on the team currently. I think we will see Tony Long Jump a few more times this season......
The rookie Junior coming off football and wrestling had impressed in practice, but hadn't participated in a meet yet. Brendan placed 3rd in a race loaded with quality conference opponents. His 24.2 time (on a 178m track) ranks #2 on the team!
We added over ten freshman this week. When they were thrown into their first track meet, they didn't flinch. They ran fearlessly and inspired. The future of this Freshman class is extremely bright.
The Senior High Jumper wins the event with another 5-10.75 day. The 2021 All-Conference jumper continues his impressive start to the season. 6-0 coming very soon!
Nick Smith (8.8) and Carter Bailitz (9.0) both PR to win gold and silver. We hope to have more hurdle practices outside of the hallway in the near future!
Charlie Zufan was our #3 400 runner last year (55.44) during his innagural season as a Junior. He started off the year suffering a touch fall at Lockport and running 58.24 at Plainfield South. Today, he went 57.0 in the open 400 placing 2nd, and lead off the 4x4 with a fast 56.3 split. Keep working Charlie!
