Carter had a huge day, which included 3/3 PRs and finishing Top 4 in all three of his events. Carter had a clean 60m Hurdle race (9.78), broke 40ft in the TJ for the first time ever with a winning jump of 40'0.25/12.20m, and finished by shocking the world with a 56.06 in the 400m (on a 178m track!).
Vinny Mazza (7.31) wins out of the slow heat, Ben Ketza (7.35), Jalen Gilleylen (7.37), Jack Maas (7.37), and Jaden Michel (7.43) place 4-7. The field included Gabe Czako (3A 2nd in the 110HH & 300INT last year) and Jake Mackowiak (3A 2nd in the LJ last year). How low will these times be by the end of March??
Both teams beat all other varsity teams. The speed depth on this team is impressive. Granted it's still early in the season, but 1:37.69 currently ranks #11 in IL, while 1:40.49 ranks #25. We will continue to develop our 8-man relay TEAM.
Our goal this year is to qualify a 4x4 team down to Charleston. Saturday was a good start. The way our TEAM came together to cheer on the 4x4s was fantastic to see. The leadership, brotherhood, and dedication of this team have been a joy to watch.

We are committed to developing a 4x8 team this year. To do so, we asked some of our best sprinters/400m runners if they would be willing to put in the work for the TEAM. Anthony Vassolo, Tony Ryan, Ryan Boling, and Caden Herzic said yes without hesitation. With only running further than 30m twice in practice so far, they knew that Saturday would be a tough workout for them. Vassolo (2:14 split [first time ever!!], 56.20 400m), Ryan (2:27.8 split, 25.7 split, 57.7 split), Boling (2:25 split, 62.1 split), & Herzic (2:30 split, 64.2 split) competed with extreme toughness. We look forward for our track to thaw out to do more 800m workouts (while still training speed!).
Thank you to Lockport for allowing us to bring all of our throwers. This group continues to improve and work hard every day. Coach Garbrecht has done a great job with this group.
