To meet our goal of Local Awareness, we are partnering with Aspired Living of Prospect Heights to help students develop an appreciation for people who are different from them. Each month, Aspired Living residents will visit our school and do an activity with a fourth grade class. The activities will vary between creating projects and musical presentations. Aspired Living residents will also visit our school for special activities, such as the Sullivan Play and band, orchestra and choir concerts.Â
On May 15, the Ambassadors walked to Aspired Living and enjoyed lunch and lemonade with the residents. It was wonderful to see the smiles and hear the enthusiasm over shared stories and laughter!
With the help of Mrs. Leuhr, band and orchestra students from Mrs. Delgado and Mrs. Lett's classes demonstrated their musical talents on March 20. Then, we had a sing-along with the Aspired Living residents. One of the favorites was a song from Mary Poppins, our recent musical.
On February 20, the students in Mrs. Ganek's class enjoyed a little physical activity, and then a brain activity focused on being healthy.
On January 16, Mrs. Broms welcomed the Aspired Living residents into her classroom to make snowflakes with her students. The beautiful, glittery snowflakes will be used as decorations for our upcoming Dance-a-Thon fundraiser. What a sparkly treat!
On December 19, Mrs. Ubert and Mrs. MacTavish's classes shared the annual Holidays Around the World experience with the Aspired Living residents. They learned about how cultures around the world celebrate the winter holidays.
On November 14, Mrs. Brusso's class made snowmen decorations with the residents, complete with buttons and fleece scarves.
On November 7, Sullivan school welcomed veterans into the building to share their experiences and stories with us. The students also brought in photographs of veterans in their life, along with a brief description of their service.
