AVID seeks to ensure that students are academically and socially prepared to succeed in college.
For four years, the AVID System focuses on developing the academic skills students will need for future success.
AVID students take the most rigorous classes they can, but receive time in AVID to get help with their coursework. The System also ensures students are aware of all the necessary steps they must take to be admitted to a four-year university, including helping students prepare for the SAT tests.
Another exciting aspect, which many students believe is the best part of AVID, are the many field trips the AVID classes take to explore nearby colleges and universities.
Niles West has a unique opportunity to serve its diverse population of learners. Niles West offers over 30 Advancement Placement (AP) Courses, but not all students are given the tools to be successful in these courses. Niles West AVID will open the door for many students to learn the skills needed to find success in Honors and AP level courses.
The faculty and staff at Niles West are committed to:
Providing all students with an equitable high school experience
Providing all students access to rigorous courses
Supporting all students to be successful by teaching them learning strategies and techniques
The goal of the Niles West AVID program is to closely align with the National AVID program. Our goal is to provide quality instruction to a diverse group of students not only enrolled in the AVID program but throughout our school building. We strongly encourage teachers and staff to visit the AVID Elective Classroom to discuss best teaching practices for all of our students at Niles West.
