AVID is a very successful program in the United States
AVID will provide you with the tools to be successful in all of your classes including honors and Advanced Placement Courses.
AVID will help strengthen your writing, inquiry, organization, collaboration, and reading skills.
AVID will give you an opportunity to visit colleges and explore careers.
Has a desire to improve executive functioning skills required for college and career readiness.
Is highly motivated academically as demonstrated through attendance, behavior, grade point average, and an 8th grade team recommendation.
May belong to an ethnic group who is underrepresented at the post-secondary level and/or first generation college bound student.
Would be considered part of the academic middle
Open-minded, and willing to try new learning skills and habits.
Is capable of completing a rigorous curriculum with some additional coaching and support.
AVID is not an “at-risk” program. It is designed to support students who would otherwise not attend a four-year university, to attend and graduate from a four-year school.
AVID is not for students who fail to complete any of their homework.
AVID is not for students who consistently receive grades of “D” or “F.”
AVID is not for unmotivated students. They must have individual determination.
