This section is designed to give parents and guardians a better understanding of how to help their students with the academic work of Dr. Jeter's classes.
Parents frequently call to ask questions like:
What is my student's grade?
What is my student doing in class?/What homework does my student have?
What progress has my student made on the work for your class?
Below you will find how to answers to those questions. By being more aware of your student's progress, you can help your student to complete work on time and to the standards set for each assignment.
What is my student's grade?
You can access the Campus Portal for your student's grades 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Grades are updated frequently. An "M" in the campus portal means that your student chose to skip doing an assignment or, for assignments designated as "Optional" or "Final," that the due date has not yet been reached. Follow the link for complete instructions.
What is my student doing in class?/What homework does my student have?
All of my assignments and expectations are listed on the class website. Follow the link above that reads "Home," or click here to access the link for your student's class. Although the majority of the assignments in this class are long-term, multi-draft projects, students also may have readings (Due dates for readings are listed in Google Classroom/Canvas and should appear on your student's Google/Canvas Calendar.) and daily writing practice. Writing prompts are given every day in class during the writing practice time (Except for Images of Lit. See below.) and must be completed at night if the student does not finish it in class. If students misses any part of the writing practice time and are unexcused for that time, they will lose a point. If they do not complete the work later, they will lose a point.
For Images of Lit students, there is only one assignment for the semester and they should be working on updating or improving it every evening. They also have to watch and critique films over the course of the semester for homework. Please see the class website for more information.
There is always something for them to work on at home.
What progress has my student made on the work for your class?
All of my students' written work must be composed in Google Docs. This is a program they can access through their school email account. If you would like to check their progress on an assignment follow these steps:
read through the assignment which you can access on the course website.
have your student log in to their Google account and call up the document.
use the assignment to determine how far your student has gotten on the assignment.
use the "See Version History" option to see how frequently your student is working on the assignment.
They should be working on their written assignments at least once a day.
