CHiL Afterschool Program Volunteer Mentor (Flyer with more details!)
https://handsonsuburbanchicago.org/
CHiL is an afterschool program serving elementary and middle school students in Wheeling Township’s Community Consolidated School District 21. Volunteers serve as mentors – fostering socialization, facilitating social-emotional learning activities, and providing homework help to students in need. The program will begin September 29th and run through the second week of May, and it takes place Monday – Thursday 3:00/3:30 (depending on the school site) – 4:45 PM. The start time is flexible for high school students to accommodate the travel time following the end of school. Volunteer mentors are asked to commit to one day each week through the school year.
This program is a great opportunity for clubs interested in partnering and sending groups of volunteers weekly, for those looking to complete an internship with hands on experience, and for students looking for ways to give back to the community! Volunteer mentors receive training on instructional techniques, student engagement strategies, and cultural competency, and they apply that knowledge while working with small groups of students from underserved communities.
