GRADUATION INFORMATION
Cap and Gown and Senior Yearbook Distribution
Cap and Gown pickup will be on May 15th in front of the Theater from 11:15 - 1:30. Fee and size information was collected during the school registration process, and all students receive: Cap, Gown, Hat and Tassel.
Gowns should never be pressed with a hot iron; use either a warm iron (treat the fabric like rayon fabric) or hang the gown on a hanger in the bathroom where a hot shower has run long enough to make the air warm and moist. Wrinkles will readily hang out of the fabric when hung in this manner.
Mortorboard tassels should be worn on the right for graduation.
Honors Cords and sashes will be distributed starting at 8:30 AM on May 22nd, before the Honors Assembly. Graduates will be notified Tuesday evening after grades are posted.
SENIOR Yearbooks will also be available for pick up at that time.
Honors Assembly and Graduation Rehearsal
ALL SENIORS WILL ATTEND THE AWARDS ASSEMBLY AT 10:00 AM on MAY 22nd
We are planning a formal, student-run, student-oriented assembly to honor the many successes of the Class of 2024. We hope to include as many seniors as possible. We ask for your help and cooperation in this last assembly of the year, as we let the light shine on our Hersey honorees.
This will be held in the Carter Gym.
The Senior awards, chosen by the faculty, will be announced. Seniors involved in school activities and recipients of awards, academic honors and Hersey scholarships will be recognized.
Graduation gowns will be worn, but no hats and tassels.
Parents of Seniors receiving awards are invited! Parents will sit in the stands.
Students receiving an award, and the parents/guardians of these students, will be notified before this date.
Seniors receiving HONORS cords/sashes will get an email on Tuesday, May 21st and should pick up their cords WEDNESDAY before the ceremony starting at 8:30 AM
Honors cords are determined after senior grades are posted on Monday, May 20th.
Honors - White Cord (3.8 - 3.99 GPA)
High Honors - Gold Cord (4.0 - 4.19 GPA)
Highest Honors - Stole (4.20 and above
GRADUATION PRACTICE IMMEDIATELY AFTER CEREMONY -REQUIRED ATTENDANCE
The school day for seniors will end at the conclusion PRACTICE
Ceremony
The graduation ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 in Roland R. Goins Stadium.
Students arrive at 5:45
Ceremony begins at 7:00 PM
Gates open at 6:00 PM
Tickets are not required for entry, but we respectfully ask that you try and limit guests to less than 10 in order to accommodate all of our Hersey families celebrating this special day.
Graduates should be in the Field House by 5:45 PM. Graduates enter through Door 36.
Dress Code
Graduation is a formal ceremony, attire should be appropriate for the event.
NO heels are allowed on the turf, wedges are acceptable.
Smoke/Vape Free Campus
John Hersey High School is a smoke-free campus. No smoking and vaping will be tolerated before, during, or after the ceremony.
Handicapped seating will be on the track alongside the graduates as well as some limited lower rows in the bleachers. Bleacher handicap seating is first come, first serve. Each person needing handicap seating, may have one other family member sit with them. HANDICAP PARKING will be near the tennis courts (North Lot), but you must enter through the WEST LOT. A Handicap placard must be visible.

Interested in graduation flowers? Save some time and energy. Hersey has arranged to have a company on site for you to purchase flowers for your graduate. You can pre-order flowers or class t-shirts here and have them ready to be picked up after the ceremony -Click HERE.
A professional photographer will be taking CANDIDS during the ceremony. There will not be formal photos taken of students wearing their cap and gown. The audience is requested to refrain from taking pictures in the vicinity of the stage during the ceremony. There will be time after the ceremony to be on the field and take pictures with family and friends. Photos of this year's graduation ceremony will be taken by Visual Image Photography (VIP). All images will be posted online for view and order about a week after graduation. You will receive an email when they are ready to view and order, or you can visit www.vipis.com.
