In A152 Painting, Drawing & Printmaking 1 students develop creativity, design, and technical skills, basic to the visual arts. A wide variety of engaging art techniques are introduced during the study of drawing, printmaking, painting, design, and digital media. In painting, drawing & printmaking, students will develop of art skills and awareness of art-related careers. This full-year course prepares students for the higher level Art courses.
Students in A252 Clay, Sculpture & Design 1 will learn three-dimensional design skills and techniques in the lab setting. The qualities of various materials, such as ceramics, plaster, wood, lost wax casting, and metal fabrication are investigated and applied in the development of 3D art creations that are decorative and functional. Students work in ceramics, using both hand construction skills and throwing on the wheel. In metals students will cut, solder and finish one of a kind pieces.
Students in A192 Intro to Digital Media create exciting digital art, image manipulations, digital illustrations, virtual worlds, and motion graphics. Students will utilize: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro as they explore the essentials of interactive media.
A342 Broadcasting will emphasize news-gathering, writing, video recording, editing, and the study of mass media. Students will also identify various news sources and use interview skills to create stories using video editing, and live-streaming software. This course explores the world of digital video and television production with the possibility of creating a school centric television channel that will highlight school events and create a place for original student produced content in addition to the news broadcast.
Students in A255/355 Photography & Video learn about the functionality of the camera and digital photo finishing. will take photos using compositional techniques related to color theory, outdoor portraiture, food photography, studio lighting and more. A camera is not required, but is more convenient. Students will also explore digital video filming and video editing.
Photo & Video 2 is a Dual Credit Course
A256 Art in Contemporary Society presents the influences of the Arts in a chronological perspective. This course examines the role that dance, drama, music, and the visual arts play in society. Through discussion, critique, and interpretation of the arts, students explore the relationship between contemporary and historical events. No experience necessary.
Art in Contemporary Society is a Dual Credit course that transfers from Harper to many 4 year schools as a Humanities Credit (which is often a college/university requirement)
