Library Policy

Circulation Policy

  • Students may have a maximum of 5 books checked out.

  • Books are students to keep for 2 weeks.

  • Students may renew a book as long as there are no holds placed on the book.

  • It is the student's responsibility to return/renew the book on time.

Overdue Policy

  • Fines are NOT issued for overdue books.

  • Students with overdue books on their record will be blocked from circulation, and will not be able to check out books until the overdue books are returned/renewed.

  • Books are considered overdue if they are not returned/renewed to the library before their due date.

  • Books more than 4 weeks overdue will be marked lost and the student will incur a $20 fine. See Lost book Policy Below for more information.

Overdue Notices

  • Paper Overdue/Lost notices will be sent weekly to students in advisory until the book is returned or the fine is paid.

  • Email notices will also be sent to the student.

  • Parents/Guardians will be emailed ONE week prior to the quarter's end if the book is still overdue.

Lost Book Policy

  • If a book is marked as lost the student will incur a $20 fine.

    • This fine covers the cost of purchasing a new book, and the processing needed in order to prepare the book for circulation.

  • If a book is returned after a fine is issued, the fine will be waived.

  • As long as the student still attends CHMS fines will be reimbursed if a lost book is returned after a fine is paid.

  • If a lost book fine is not addressed by the end of the quarter is was issued the student will be blocked from circulation until the fine is paid or the book is returned.

Damaged Book Policy

  • If a book is damaged beyond repair for reasons other than natural wear and tear, the student will incur a $20 fine.

    • This fine covers the cost of purchasing a new book, and the processing needed in order to prepare the book for circulation.

  • If a damaged book fine is not addressed by the end of the quarter is was issued the student will be blocked from circulation until the fine is paid or the book is returned.
