GCHS Musical - Chicago: Teen EditionEncore! at GCHS is proud to present CHICAGO: High School Edition. When Roxie Hart is arrested for the murder of her lover, the press makes her a celebrity - much to the dismay of Velma Kelly- their previous murderess-of-the-moment. Roxie steals Velma's spotlight - and her lawyer. But fame is fickle, and Roxie discovers without something new to catch people's attention, they quickly move on to the next big thing. With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. This long-running musical is based on a 1926 play of the same title by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, about actual criminals and the crimes on which she reported. Chicago features iconic songs such as All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, and Mr. Cellophane set against a backdrop of vaudeville, nightclubs, and the lurid true-crime reporting of the early 1920s. Encore!'s production of Chicago features the work of a student company of more than 30 actors, 70 technicians, and 20 musicians involved in all aspects of performance, design, construction, publicity, and more. We can't wait to see you for a bit of Razzle Dazzle in November.
