Illinois students read off the list of 20 nominated Rebecca Caudill Young Reader's Award books every year. If you are looking to try something different, give the Caudill Challenge a try!
A challenge to read ALL 20 Caudill books during the 2026-2027 school year. Must read 3 to vote.
Caudill books are on display in the Wauconda Middle School Library.
We have Caudill ebooks & audiobooks available in Sora.
The Wauconda Area Library also has Caudills in print and ebooks/audiobooks through Hoopla & Libby.
How does it work?
Step #1: Join the Library Google Classroom course with this access code: 5ttyz5xf
Step #2: Read books from the nominated list!
Step #3: Take the quiz in Google Classroom for each book you read and WIN PRIZES.
If there is a book on the list that you are not comfortable wtih, please come talk to Mrs. Lyons and we will find a substitute.
If you do not pass a quiz, please email Mrs. Lyons and quizzes can be reset because you must receive a 5/5 for the book to count!
The virtual scoreboard, available in the Google Classroom, will be updated throughout the school year until the challenge ends on Friday, March 12. If you are eligible for a prize, you will be contacted!

If you read 3 books & pass 3 quizzes -- Great job! Now you're eligible to vote in March at our voting party!
If you read 5 books & pass 5 quizzes -- Fabulous! Now you will get to choose an item from the treasure chest.
If you read 10 books & pass 10 quizzes -- Wow, you're halfway there! You will receive an autographed item from one of the authors on the list.
If you read 15 books & pass 15 quizzes -- Amazing job! (UPDATE- You will receive a $10 gift card to a local pizza place at the voting party on March 12!!)
If you read ALL 20 books & pass all the quizzes on the list -- What?! You're a rockstar! You will receive a certificate that you CONQUERED the Caudill Challenge PLUS a book of choice from our book fair in April!
