Illinois students read off the list of 20 nominated Rebecca Caudill Young Reader's Award books every year. If you are looking to try something different, give the Caudill Challenge a try!
A challenge to read ALL 20 Caudill books during the 2025-2026 school year.
Caudill books are on display in the Wauconda Middle School Library.
We have Caudill ebooks & audiobooks available in Sora.
The Wauconda Area Library also has Caudills in print and ebooks/audiobooks through Hoopla & Libby.

How does it work?
Step #1: Join the Google Classroom course with this access code: do2ddkek
Step #2: Read books from the nominated list!
Step #3: Take the quiz in Google Classroom for each book (each book is worth 5 points) you read and WIN PRIZES. NOTE -- If you do not pass a quiz, please email Mrs. Lyons and quizzes can be reset because you must receive a 5/5 to receive points for a quiz/book!
The virtual scoreboard, available in the Caudill Challenge Google Classroom, will be updated throughout the school year until the challenge ends on Friday, February 13th. If you are eligible for a prize, you will be contacted!

If you read 3 books & pass 3 quizzes (15 points) -- Great job! Now you're eligible to vote in February (UPDATE: voting party will be held on February 18th during lunch periods) and also get to pick a prize from the treasure chest.
If you read 5 books & pass 5 quizzes (25 points) -- Fabulous! Now you will get to choose another item from the treasure chest AND a "sandwich cookie" pencil sharpener OR a scented gel crayon.
If you read 10 books & pass 10 quizzes (50 points) -- Wow, you're halfway there! You will receive an autographed item from one of the authors on the list.
If you read 15 books & pass 15 quizzes (75 points) -- Amazing job! (UPDATE- You will receive a $10 gift card to a local pizza place at the voting party on February 18th!)
If you read ALL 20 books & pass the quizzes on the list (100 points) -- What?! You're a rockstar! You will receive a certificate that you CONQUERED the Caudill Challenge PLUS a book of choice from our book fair in April!
