Mission Statement
The Wauconda Middle School Library is committed to ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The library partners with classroom teachers to instruct students in research skills and promote reading for learning and pleasure. The library provides a diverse collection of resources that enhance critical, creative, and independent thinking.
Objectives to accomplish this mission:
Provide physical and intellectual access to materials in varying formats, in an environment that is conducive to learning;
Offer guidance and instruction in the use of library resources;
Support the Wauconda Middle School curriculum with materials and services;
Design learning experiences to develop independent use of library resources;
Collaborate and partner with District 118 libraries and the Wauconda Area Public Library.
Library Expectations
Students must
Be responsible and fill out the e-hallway pass before coming to the library. Students then can fill out the Google Form on the chromebook located by the library entrance for attendance (No pass needed before or after school).
Be responsible by coming prepared to work on assignments or projects to be in the library.
Be respectful of other students and staff who are working in the library.
Be respectful of library materials and property and keep the library clean.
Be responsible by returning or renewing your books on time.
Be safe by leaving food and drinks out of the library.
Circulation
Checking in and checking out (physical) books
Students may check out a maximum of 4 books, excluding digital ebooks and audiobooks. Students are encouraged to have their Student ID but not required to check out books. Sixth grade students must have a permission slip on file to check out Young Adult (YA) books. A permission slip can be picked up at the circulation desk.
Fiction, nonfiction, biographies and graphic novels are checked out for 3 weeks.
To return library books, students must use the drop box that is located at the circulation desk.
Renewing a checked out book
To renew a book, students should visit the circulation desk. Students are encouraged to bring their book with them though it is not required.
Placing holds
If a book is checked out, a hold can be placed on it. Students can place up to 5 holds on 5 different titles. A hold may be placed one of two ways:
At the circulation desk.
Online on a student's personal Destiny Discover account.
When a book is returned, students will receive a notice on their locker and an email that the book is ready for them to check out. It will be held for 1 week only.
Fines and fees
There are no overdue library fines. Students will overdue books will not be able to check out additional titles until the overdue materials are returned or renewed.
Overdue notices are sent out via email on Wednesdays.
Damaged or lost books will require payment for a book to replace it. Contact Mrs. Taylor for other payment options.
