History

Scholastic Bowl is a competition that tests a teams knowledge of literature, math, science, social studies, fine arts and miscellaneous information. Competitors answer trivia questions in a race against teams from other schools.


Team Members are sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who have a strong academic background in one or more areas, love trivia, are willing to learn, and enjoy a little friendly competition. A permission slip is required to join and must be returned within the first week of practice.


Individual Practice is encouraged. Students can work on knowledge building activities with family, friends or on their own.


Team Practices are scheduled Monday through Thursday after school from 3:15 pm until 4:40 pm. Team members learn how to play the game and build their knowledge through the following activities:


Playing the game

  • Learn the rules of the game

  • Select the five member starting positions

  • Develop substitution strategies

  • Actively listen to practice questions

  • Develop answer strategies

  • Use the buzzer system

  • Practice matches

  • Keep score

  • Have fun

Building Knowledge

  • Assess team member knowledge

  • Determine team member specialties

  • Review missed question topics

  • Assign material we need to learn

  • Create and grow lists of information

  • Research areas of weakness

  • Write practice questions

  • Play trivia games

  • Study flashcards
