5 Things to Know About the SAT
1. It's Free!
In the state of Colorado each high school junior receives a free standardize test ( SAT) that is designed to help universities with the admission decisions. With this state SAT test allows student to be able to send up to 4 scores to the top universities of their choice.
2. Scholarships
Universities use SAT scores for admissions and merit-based scholarships. The higher the score and strength of your GPA improves your chances of these merit-based scholarships.
3. Test Structure
The SAT consists of 3 sections Reading, Writing & Language, Math, and optional Writing section.
The Math portion is broken down into 2 sub sections with calculator and without calculator and covers Arithmetic, Algebra I &II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Data Analysis.
The reading section consists of 5 reading passages.
4. Time
3 hours ( Includes Reading, Writing & language, Math (without Calc) and Math with Calculator)
3 hour 50 minutes (with writing)
5. How the test is scored
The SAT is based on a 1600 point scale. The score is broken down into two sub-scores Reading & Writing and Math.
The benchmark to demonstrate proficiency is a: Reading and Writing score of 450 & Math score of 500
