Dr. Slowiak bouldering during a trip to Colorado.
Hello! I'm Dr. Julie Slowiak. Students call me Dr. S. I am a full professor and have been lucky to have been a faculty member in the UMD Psychology Department since 2008. I teach undergraduate courses in statistics, learning and behavior, and applied behavior analysis; I teach graduate courses within the industrial/organizational track of our graduate program.
My research examines how behavioral science can be used to create healthy workplaces that support employee well-being, sustainable performance, and organizational effectiveness. Drawing from organizational behavior management, industrial-organizational psychology, and occupational health psychology, my lab examines worker well-being and healthy workplaces, with research focused on burnout, work engagement, leadership, psychological safety, chronic health conditions and work, and organizational interventions within healthcare and human service organizations. Students in the Wellbeing and Behavioral Science (WBS) Lab have opportunities to engage in applied research addressing socially meaningful workplace challenges through literature reviews, data analysis, conference presentations, and manuscript development. Learn more on the WBS Lab webpage.
