The Roaring Muse is one of your UMD publishing options. They provide a welcoming space for the local community and student artists to celebrate their work. The Roaring Muse accepts a variety of work including: nonfiction, creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, one-act dramas, visual art, and multimedia. Due to increasing submissions, The Roaring Muse rejects some work, but whether you are accepted or rejected, the editors are willing to provide feedback.

Length: Less than 5000 words for fiction non-fiction and creative non-fiction, 5 poems or fewer no more than 5 pages, 15 pages for drama: one-act plays, Visual artists must submit a brief artist statement (150-300 words) that notes the title of your work, the methods and materials used, and the year of creation. The statement should also briefly describe the work's central themes, tensions, and/or explorations. Please send in images 300 DPI or greater, Multimedia: Musical Recording should have either melody transcriptions or lyrics sheets (both if possible). These submissions will be published on the Roaring Muse youtube channel. Please include a brief statement (150-300 words) that notes the title of your work and any other information you wish to include.
