Welcome to Dwight-Englewood, and welcome to your new iPad. This page contains a series of video lessons to help you get your iPad configured. There are questions embedded in some of them for you to answer as an understanding check.
If you run into technical trouble, you can stop by the Taub Center on the second floor of the Imperatore Library or call the Computer Services Help Desk at 201-227-3177 Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00. You may also email help@d-e.org with a specific question or to make an appointment to get assistance. Finally, you can also browse a collection of help documents at http://help.d-e.org.
The lessons below are mostly the same as those that new MS students go through for their iPad setup and training. Differences between student and faculty iPads are noted. Please complete the Setup section before using your D-E iPad. The lessons in the optional section may be of interest if you want to learn more about some of the iPad students use.
Out of the Box & Logging In (If you've already completed this step with Technology staff, please move on to the next section)
When you put the white label on your iPad as directed in the video, please put the blue asset tag to the left of the white name label on the iPad (not the case) and record the number in this form. (See the form for a photo). If your iPad was already labeled and tagged by Technology staff, you may skip this step.
Regarding the wireless setup, if you finish setup 1a using your home or other off-campus wifi, your iPad will automatically be configured to connect to D-E's wireless network.
When you sign in to the Remote Management screen, use your My DE email and existing My DE password. (There is no handout with an initial password.)
For Apple ID, we recommend that faculty (not students) use the same Apple ID that you used for your Mac. If you don't have an existing Apple ID, we suggest you create a free one not using your d-e.org email address. (Again, this only applies to faculty. Students must use the Apple ID assigned to them.) We don't manage employee Apple IDs.
Please complete the remaining setup lessons in this section before you start using your iPad.
Lesson 3 - Getting Around Your iPad (5:09) - Includes how to install apps from Self Service and how to display the iPad screen using a projector. Note the following clarifications for faculty and non-teaching staff, which may be different than what's stated in the video as it was designed for students:
Teachers and students can install all non-free apps purchased by the school from Self Service. Teachers (not students) can install free apps from the Apple App Store. Student are permitted to install apps only from Self Service. Information on how to request an app to be added to Self Service so you can use it with students is here.
There is no restriction on what apps a teacher can install on their individual iPad. However, our iPad management system tracks what apps are installed on all (student and employee) D-E issued iPads.
This is the material that all sixth-graders and new seventh- and eighth-graders are expected to review and know. Teachers may find some of this directly helpful or to better understand the student perspective.
