Course Description
Dance is a powerful and expressive subject which encourages students to develop their creative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacity. The course recognises the role of dance in young people’s lives and students will study a range of dance styles and fusions. The study of the anthology of professional dance works will develop students' ability to critically appraise and provide a springboard for engaging in practical tasks. The course is split into 2 components:
Component 1: Performance and Choreography (60% GCSE)
Performance (30% GCSE): Solo performance of 2 set phrases & Duet/Trio performance
Choreography(30% GCSE) Solo or Group choreography in response to a set stimulus
Component 2: Dance Appreciation (40% GCSE)
Written examination - 90 minutes
Section A: knowledge and understanding
Section B: critical appreciation of own work
Section C: critical appreciation of 6 professional dance works
