Core Computing - 2 Lessons a fortnight 

Course Description

At KS4 we have two GCSE courses: Creative iMedia (Core) and GCSE Computer Science (Optional).

The Difference:

The main difference is that core computing is to do with using software to solve problems, while Computer Science is about writing the software code and designing the software yourself.


Core Computing  enables students to:

● continue their studies in Computing, Digital Literacy and IT

● acquire skills that can be applied to almost every job

● have an understanding of Computational Thinking

Exam Information

Exam Board: OCR Cambridge Nationals iMedia

40 % Exam:

R093 – Creative iMedia in the media industry  

60% NEA:

R084 – Visual Identity 30%  ( Competed in Year 10)

R097 – Interactive Digital Media 30% (Completed in Year 11)


Course Structure

This course is assessed through  2 NEA and 1 written exam

Qualification: Equivalent to 1 GCSE in iMedia
