At CWC-East Valley, we try to make your child’s birthday a meaningful one! While we are very aware that birthdays are often celebrated with treats, the CWC-EV school-wide policy is that we do not celebrate birthdays with food. In addition, some of our children have food allergies and restrictions that might limit a friend’s participation in a food-related celebration.
Instead of celebrating with food, please consider letting your child “treat” our class to a birthday book! He or she may bring a book (wrapped in birthday paper if he or she would like) that would be given to the class and become a permanent part of our classroom library. We will insert a birthday book donation sticker that your child will sign in class.
Please know that you are not obligated to do this, however, the concept of a child sharing his or her birthday and being a “giver”, rather than a “receiver” is an important one!
If you would like to send your child to school with "favors" for their classmates to bring home, please communicate directly with your classroom teacher to confirm if they are comfortable with this, and keep the items small and preferably related to school if possible: pencils, bookmarks, stickers, key chains for backpacks, etc. Thank you!
