My name is Lisa Bisbee and I love math more than most people. I live in Huntington with my husband and crazy rescue dog. I grew up in Middlebury VT and graduated from Hamilton College with a double major in Mathematics and Psychology. After working out west as a ski bum, I returned to VT and found myself working with children with emotional and behavioral challenges. I was granted a teaching fellowship through UVM and in 1995 was awarded a Masters in Education with an endorsement of Learning Specialist/Consulting Teacher. I did my internship in Swift House, and I have worked all around the school since 1995.
I love spending time outside with my family, hiking, and gardening and, it turns out, I love yelling encouragement from the sidelines at soccer games and pep rallies! I enjoy traveling to National parks and around the world. I love reading excellent books and I am always open to suggestions. Dance parties, laughing, and helping people figure out problems are some of my favorite things.
I am excited to be starting my 16th year teaching in Swift House! I earned my bachelor's degree at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2006 with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. I completed my teaching licensure program in 2009 and earned my Master's Degree in 2012 through St. Michael's College. Outside of school, I spend lots of my time with my family, including my two incredible children, Ryan (8) and Max (6). I enjoy gardening, camping, cooking, baking, and reading. I love exercising in many forms and spending time outdoors enjoying all that Vermont has to offer. I also love to travel with friends and find adventures in new places. I am looking forward to learning from this year's Swift students!
I am proud to say this will be my 22nd year teaching on Swift House. I graduated from Cornell University in 1997 with a BA in Geology, and from UVM in 2000 with my MAT. I started my career teaching 8th-grade science in Barre for two years before I found my home in Swift's multiage, interdisciplinary setting. I truly enjoy the many adventures each new school year offers, and the energy that middle schoolers bring into the classroom. I am also a mom to two CVU high schoolers and enjoy creative endevors, music, and any outdoor activities. You are equally likely to find me paddling, running, walking, at the gym, gardening, skiing, or enjoying time with friends and family.
I am a relatively recent import to Vermont, having lived for the past decade in Montreal. While there, I studied Psychology and World Religions at McGill University, as well as Creative Writing at Concordia University. Upon moving to Burlington in 2023, I received my teaching license through Champlain College, and I taught Humanities in the Burlington School District. I am so excited to embark on the next step of my teaching journey at WCS on Swift House.
In the classroom, I love learning through experience and creativity, and making real world connections to material. Outside of school, I enjoy a plethora of hobbies, including reading, writing poetry and short stories, playing music, playing video games, skating, snowboarding, camping, and taking my dog, Fergus, on hikes and to the dog park.

I started my journey on Swift House as a student teacher in the 2011-2012 school year and began as a teacher in 2013. I graduated from Saint Michael's College in 2012 with a dual degree in Secondary Education and English. I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Saint Mike's in 2015. When I'm not teaching you can find me taking in adventures with my son, Louie, enjoying all the outdoor activities VT has to offer, coaching the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team and coaching fitness classes at Orangetheory Fitness.
