The "First Steps in Music" curriculum by John Feierabend is used with students in grades K–2. This method utilizes folk music mainly from America, but also from a variety of countries and cultures. Students will learn to sing, keep a steady beat, and express themselves through music; in other words, students learn to become "Tuneful, Beatful, and Artful" musicians.
We hope that by allowing children to experience music in this way, they will grow up to be musical adults who can take part in a variety of musical activities in our society, such as dancing at their wedding, clapping or singing along at sporting events, singing hymns in church, or rocking their babies to sleep. This is referred to as the "Thirty Year Plan."
