Students in grades 5-6 are taught by Mrs. Christie.
They receive music class once a week for 40 minutes.
5th Grade: Galyean, Lasher, & Wieland
6th Grade: Zavadil, Laggis, Heney
In grades 5–6, students continue developing their musical knowledge and skills through engaging, teacher-guided instruction. Building on foundations from First Steps in Music & Conversational Solfege, they deepen their understanding of music literacy, performance, & creative expression through a variety of whole-class & small-group activities.
While most of the year is teacher-directed, especially in 5th grade, 6th graders gradually take on more independence. As the year progresses, 6th grade students are given more opportunities to explore music in ways that reflect their personal interests, preparing them for the project-based approach in the 7–8 program. Whether working on music theory or creative projects, students are supported in becoming confident, capable young musicians.
