Principles of Biomedical Science
In the introductory course of the PLTW Biomedical Science program, students explore concepts of biology and medicine to determine factors that led to the death of a fictional person. While investigating the case, students examine autopsy reports, investigate medical history, and explore medical treatments that might have prolonged the person’s life. The activities and projects introduce students to human physiology, basic biology, medicine, and research processes while allowing them to design their own experiments to solve problems. This is the first year of the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) biomedical science sequence. This class is cross credited for CTE and Science. Students are encouraged to participate in HOSA.
Human Body Systems
Students investigate human body systems and health conditions including heart disease, diabetes, sickle cell disease, hypercholesterolemia, and infectious diseases. They determine factors that led to the death of a fictional person and investigate lifestyle choices and medical treatments that might have prolonged their life. Activities and projects introduce students to human physiology, medicine, research and bioinformatics. This is the first year of the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) biomedical science sequence. This class is cross credited for CTE and Science. Students are encouraged to participate in HOSA
