Minerals containing elements of economic value are generally present in all igneous rocks, but the elements may not be concentrated enough to make mining economical. There are many different processes that can concentrate an ore mineral into a particular area. Only in relatively rare circumstances are they in sufficient abundance so that mining is profitable.

Ore Mineral is a mineral from which one or more metals or elements/compounds can be extracted for profit.
STUDIES OF ORE DEPOSITS, has found certain combinations of chemical elements are frequently associated with particular types of ore deposits, and that there are some striking exclusion or inclusions in element associations, for instance;
FIND TOGETHER
Lead and Zinc tend to occur together in sulphide ore deposits in black shales e.g. Mt Isa in QLDs.
Nickel and Copper tend to occur together in sulphide deposit in the greenstones in the Kalgoorlie region.
Tin and Tantalum are associated with pegmatites.
DON'T FIND TOGETHER
Lead and Zinc are NOT ever found together in an ore deposit.
Tin-Tantalum-lithium minerals are not associated with lead-zinc or nickel-copper ore deposits.
The Main Minerals that Contain Metals
As well as these metal associations in ore deposits we find certain rock types and geological processes are associated with particular ore deposit types.
Nickle deposit are associated with ultramafic and mafic igneous rocks.
Tin and tantalum deposits are lined with crystallising granitic magmas.
Lead and zinc deposits are commonly associated with black shales and limestones.
Some ore minerals only occur as sulphides.
Some ore minerals occur in an oxide form.
