Interaction is the heart of connecting with students! There are lots of opportunities to interact with us and each other in our course activities. The only communication outside of our course is pre-course email; if you haven't read our welcome email yet (sent the week before our class begins), now's the perfect time.
We hold optional weekly office hours using Zoom videoconferencing--these are casual gatherings where we can chat about tools and ideas, ask questions, and look at examples through screen-sharing. See the Canvas Calendar or Syllabus for dates, times, and details.
We are both usually pretty speedy with our replies, but please allow us 24 hours before following up with us again. Also, if you reach out on a Saturday or Sunday, please don't be surprised if we are a little slower to respond.
Online courses turn the idea of attendance on its head. Online, you can "attend" class in your pajamas at 2:00 in the morning, or sitting by the pool on a sunny day. Attendance is not marked by your body being in a class, but rather by your participation within the class activities.
Here's the brief "rules" we'll follow to guide participation:
Our modules officially open on Mondays, although we will unofficially open them Saturday mornings to give you more time and flexibility. Schedule 1 hour each Monday (or during the weekend) to log in, review the module and assignments, take note of due dates, and plan your week.
Check in and interact in the course at least 2-3 times a week.
Contribute meaningfully to all discussions.
If you know you will be away from the course for more than a few days, connect with us in advance so we are aware of your plans.
Most assignments in this course have a due date, rubric, and a deadline for submissions. Participants are expected to submit assignments on or before the assigned due date, which, in turn, allows us time to review your work and provide meaningful feedback. Due dates have been designed in the course to ensure time is provided to allow you to produce your best work.
