My class expectations are simple. Students are to bring assignments that they need to work on and all the materials they need to be successful. What does that look like?
Teacher strongly suggested:
writing implements that include several pencils/erasers, pencil lead if student uses mechanical pencils, several pens, several highlighters (different colors)
notebooks/study guides
binders
filler and graph paper
Binder Reminder
Class notes/notebook
Chapter reading book (at student's level)
Student Workbooks that contain notes or information. We have copies of textbooks so that the student does not need to bring her/his home copy.
This year brings some positive changes to our programs. We are also changing our Resource support time to reflect our sitewide changes. We will be spending about half of each student's Resource time on academic skills improvement in English and/or math. I will be reviewing and/or re-teaching concepts that students are struggling with. I will also be using an online curriculum which has been purchased for special education students use and assigning students practice based on IEP goals.
Homework is practice for students to master content. If a student is finished and caught up with English or math assignments, she or he may work on science or social studies/history assignments. Time spent reviewing and/or reteaching concepts take(s) time, so students and parents need to know that students will not have time to finish all their homework at school. If students are noting that their homework is complete, ask to see their homework to confirm their statements as well as to be aware of what your student is learning.
If the assignment requires coloring, students need to complete this task at home so that our efforts can focus on supporting the student's academic needs with reviewing or re-teaching academic content.
EXCEPTIONS: Depending on a student's IEP, Resource service time will sometimes be spent on assessments, data collection, student study skills/organization, and/or other services (e.g. speech/language).
For students who attend class daily, they have the opportunity to earn up to five (5) points daily. Grading is pass/fail. Points are accumulated weekly and posted on Aeries. They are graded on the following rubric:
On-Time (Ready to work) - 1 point
Question of the Day - 1 point
Work Completion/Class Engagement - up to 3 points
