Did you know your part-time job can help you earn credits toward graduation? RHS students with a paid position can earn elective credits by documenting their hours.
Secure a Work Permit: Before you start working or earning credit, you must have an official work permit on file.
Submit Your Pay Stubs: Bring your physical or digital pay stubs to your counselor. These stubs are used to verify the total number of hours you have worked.
Credit Calculation: Credits are awarded based on the following formula:
36 Hours of Paid Work = 1 Elective Credit
Stay Consistent: Turn in your pay stubs at the end of every grading period. This ensures your credits are updated regularly, and nothing gets lost.
Verification: Only paid employment is eligible for these elective credits.
Credits cannot be issued retroactively for hours worked before your work permit was finalized. Make sure your paperwork is in order on day one!
Steps you need to take to obtain your Work Permit:
Get the Intent to Employ form: https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/dlseformb1-1.pdf. Available in the main office too!
Complete the “Minor’s Information” section and “School Information” section.
The parent or guardian needs to complete the section titled “To be filled in and signed by parent or legal guardian.”
Employer needs to complete the section titled: “To be filled in and signed by employer.”
When these sections are completed, bring the form back to the main office, and Ms. Silverman will prepare and return the Work Permit in approximately 24 to 48 hours. You may also email her the completed form at csilverman@cv.k12.ca.us
