Your child needs a backpack (without wheels). Backpacks should be brought to school everyday.
We believe children learn best through a clear, positive, encouraging approach. Listening, learning and friendship skills are taught explicitly through our Second Step program. Children are expected to behave respectfully. We use a clip chart to help children learn to manage their behavior choices. The goal is that children end each day on the smile. Sometimes, students make extra wonderful choices and will end the day on the star. These students will be given a Proctor Pride Point. It is not possible for a child to end every day on the star, so please praise your child for smile days.
Student birthdays will be acknowledged in the classroom with a birthday crown and song. Although, not necessary, parents are welcome to send in 25 non-edible treats (pencils, stickers, small toys, etc...) to be distributed to all 25 students at the end of the school day.
Your child will have the opportunity to go to the library every week. During the library time kindergarteners will be allowed to check out one book. Please help your child to return this book to school by its due date (one day prior to the library day).
Kindergarten lunch is between 11:35-12:15 every day. Please send your child with a healthy lunch that they can manage independently and eat in 20 minutes. Lunches should be packed separate from snacks. Lunches should remain in student backpacks until lunchtime.
Parent conferences will be held the week of September 24-28. These conferences are for the parents of ALL students. They are an important opportunity for you and your child's teacher to get to know each other and share important information. Our home reading program will be explained and your child's first home reading book will be sent home at this conference.
Spring conferences are held for parents of students who are not meeting standards.
Periodically, your child will have a progress report in their weekly envelope. Teacher created progress reports will be sent home with all students so the parents can have insight into how your child is behaving in the classroom. Please look at these and discuss them with your child. Parent support makes a huge difference!
Once a trimester, district progress reports will be sent home in the envelopes of students not yet meeting current district standards. These reports need to be signed and returned to school.
Report cards are sent home every December, March and June. They are yours to keep. The envelope they come home in should be signed and returned to school.
Your child should bring a small, healthy snack everyday. Snacks should be sent in a small container labeled with your child's name. Snacks should be placed in our snack basket each morning.
Your child will bring home an envelope each Friday filled with the week's completed work. Please take the time to look through the work and celebrate your child's efforts. The work is yours to keep. Please return the empty envelope to school each Monday.
