All images must be submitted in JPEG or PNG format (.jpg, .jpeg or .png) and RGB color mode. Maximum file size is 4.0 MB per image. If your files are larger than 4.0 MB, they will need to be resized using Photoshop (on our classroom computers) or Photopea (free online, linked here). If you don’t know how to do this, follow the directions/demo below.
Note: If your phone's camera saves files as heic, you will need to convert to jpg using a converter like this one before you can edit them.
Using DETAIL images? Place the image of the whole work first, then the close-up right after it.
Using PER images? Usually, it tells a clearer story to put the finished work first, and the PER/behind-the-scenes image(s) afterward, so that is what I suggest.
Do I have to enter DEPTH? Only if your artwork has real texture that pops out of the surface of the work. Include the canvas width in your measurement, if it's on a stretched canvas.
For PER/PROCESS and DETAIL images: Enter NA for size.
WRITING ABOUT PROCESS: Process = the manipulation of materials and surface intentionally chosen to help clearly communicate the idea in the piece. Be specific and use the language of the elements of art and principles of design, linked HERE. If you are writing about a PER-specific slide, explain what you are showing in your slide. That is, if you showed revision, what did you revise? Why and how? If you showed experimentation, what did you experiment with and how did that help communicate your idea? If you showed practice, what did you practice with? Why? If you need more help with this, go to AP Classroom and watch these 2 videos: Course Skill 3.B video 1 and Course Skill 3.D video 1.
What about the ORDER of my SI images? Present your images in the order that best shows that you engaged in a sustained investigation guided by practice, experimentation, and revision. Show improvement by going from least developed to most developed, and/or, show your branches of exploration.
In your ARTIST STATEMENT, replace any titles you cited for the AP Art Show with image numbers. Example: "I experimented with texture in works 5-9." or "I experimented with texture (images 5-9)."
How to choose SELECTED WORKS? These should be your best 5 artworks you've ever made, that show synthesis between your ideas, materials, and processes. They can be from your Sustained Investigation series, or not, or a combination of both. They do NOT have to go together in a series.
File -- Export As -- PNG
A popup window will open showing you the file width, height, and quality. At the bottom of the thumbnail, you will see the file size.
Change the width until the file size number at the bottom is between 2.5 MB and 3.7 MB. The height will change automatically once you click outside the width window. Do this until you get between 2.5 and 3.7 MB at the bottom of the thumbnail.
Note: JPG files are smaller than PNG, but they are also lower quality. Use PNG if you can.
Notice the difference in format, height, width, and file size at the bottom of the image.
