California law allows students in California’s public schools to raise money and make decisions about how they will spend this money. Student organizations established to raise and spend money on behalf of students are called Associated Student Body organizations, or ASBs. ASBs must be made up of current students and be located at the school where the funds are maintained. ..... ASB organizations and the management of ASB funds present students with opportunities not only to raise and spend money, but also to learn the principles of operating a small business and acquire leadership skills while making a contribution to their school and fellow students and improving their own educational experience."
All club fundraisers must be approved in advance through the activities committee at least two weeks prior to commencement date. To obtain prior approval, a club member should submit:
Activity Request / Fundraising Form (In-Person Fundraisers)
Online Fundraisers Approval Instructions/Form (must be approved by the district, if applicable)
Online Fundraiser Forms are also available in the Finance Office. Or, you can print out the form, scan it and submit it electronically to cvinciguerra@cv.k12.ca.us.
The requester will be notified by a member of the committee once the activity is approved.
Some things to keep in mind when fundraising are:
ASB Fundraisers should be student driven/managed.
Students participate voluntarily.
Students who do not participate cannot be excluded.
Funds raised should be with a specific purpose in mind. That purpose should be stated in writing on the fundraiser approval form.
Games of chance, including raffles, are not allowed.
Fundraising receipts should be turned-in to the Finance office with an ASB deposit slip.
A copy of each receipt or other documentation should be supplied if there is a “per student” donation that must be accounted for.
ASB money should be spent for current members / current year. Exceptions are:
Seed money for next year
Reasonable carryover balances
Pre-approved multi year projects
