Learning Structure
Learning Structure
- Daily Check-In (highly recommended): Each teacher will have their own Daily Check-In with the students (recorded video check-in OR a live Google Meet). This could be a morning meeting, a discussion of the week's learning plan, a read aloud, and/or a mini-lesson. Per district guidelines, teachers and students are NOT permitted to record live Google Meets. All live Google Meet times will be posted at the top of the weekly learning plan. They can also be found in the class calendar.
- Office Hours (optional): Office Hours are a way for me to meet with students in smaller groups and to focus on more specific learning targets. It is optional for students to join for additional help and to ask questions. There will be a Reading/Writing Office Hour and a Math Office Hour at least once a week. Science Office Hours will be scheduled intermittently. Per district guidelines, teachers and students are NOT permitted to record live Google Meets. All Office Hours will be posted at the top of the weekly learning plan. They can also be found in the class calendar.
- During the day, students will be “on their own” to engage in the activities and learn as best they can, accessing recorded mini-lessons, learning experiences, assigned tasks, projects, and a variety of online learning tools.
- Parents may reach out to teachers via email as needed.
Learning Expectations
Learning Expectations
- 4th Grade CLIP Suggested Daily Schedule
- Google Hangout Norms - students should be using cusdk8.org accounts
- Meyerholz Distance Learning Tips for Families
- CUSD Student Responsible Use of Technology Policy
- Online learning is different than in-person learning and requires more flexibility for everyone
- Students should NOT sit in front of screens/devices all day
- The same level of work/pacing that occurs during an on-campus school day can NOT be reflected/expected with remote learning
- There should be a balance between academics (English Language Arts, math, science) and "choice" learning (social emotional learning, digital citizenship, art/music, health/PE, maker/coding/games)
Grading
Grading
- Assignments will be entered into Thinkwave on a weekly basis using "complete/incomplete." This is NOT a grade. It is simply an indication that tracks weekly participation. If an assignment is not completed by Friday at 3:00 PM, the ThinkWave entry will be marked as "incomplete" and will NOT change, even if students turn in late work. Of course, students are encouraged to make up all work so that they do not fall behind in pacing/content.
- Teachers are NOT scoring percentages or points - no "traditional gradebook" at this point. Teachers will keep track of student "participation" and will provide feedback to students.
- June report cards TBD
