This is, as the name states, just for fun.
It's always a good day to be a Mustang!
Check out our staff videos and mannequin challenges! Updated when new videos are available!
You may have noticed by now that I love costumes. And fortunately, Miller teachers are willing to join in on my yearly Halloween themes! Stop by after events as I add more costume photos.
2021 staff Halloween theme: Alice in Wonderland!
Here we have the Queen of Hearts (x2), the Cheshire Cat (x2), Alice bursting out of the house, and yours truly as the White Rabbit. Both Cheshire Cats took advantage of their masks for their famous grins!
2020 staff Halloween theme: Fine Art!
Since we were in "frames" anyway for virtual learning, I figured we should just use that to our advantage! Some of the featured artists were Koons, Magritte, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Lichtenstein.
I'm the one behind the apple.
2018 staff Halloween theme: Literary Characters!
Some of the featured books: Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, The Hunger Games, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Hobbit, and even some picture books (like The Giving Tree and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish).
And here we have the 8th grade language arts team as Hela (or Hel from Norse mythology), Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), and Bilbo Baggins (The Hobbit and The Lord of the Ring).
2017 staff Halloween theme: the world of Harry Potter!
The 8th grade language arts team as Professor Snape, Rita Skeeter, Auror Tonks, and house-elf Dobby. In case you can't tell by the wigs and ears, that's Mr. Oncay, Mrs. Allen, Ms. Niksch, and Miss Pollock.
And the Miller staff as the Star Wars cast in 2016.
And here are Luke, Leia, and Han. And once again, in case you can't tell, that's Mr. Oncay and Mrs. Orcutt with me.
I made Luke's vest and gadgetry! (Because Ms. Niksch took a sewing class as a junior high student, once long ago, in a rival CUSD school not so far away.)
And here's the Marvel Comics vs. DC Comics staff Halloween in 2015.
The Winter Soldier's arm (and one-sleeved jacket) was designed and made by the evil Dr. Niksch and a team of Hydra agents (my not-very-helpful cats).
Yet another year, we did the picture book Where's Waldo? It was great fun catching glimpses of Waldo all over campus!
I was dressed as Waldo's girlfriend Wanda, and you can also see Messrs. Villafana and Greenfield as Waldo's arch-nemesis Odlaw (Yes, that's "Waldo" spelled backwards!).
And one year, I was Link, Twilight Princess version. (From The Legend of Zelda game, in case you aren't a Nintendo fan.)
I had the shield cut and curved for me (Mr. Headley, former Miller woodshop teacher), but I drew, cut and painted all the emblem pieces, and of course, I sewed the tunic, "chain-link" armor, cap, and gauntlets (which are not visible).
This was before I started inviting teachers to do a theme with me, so no group shot. Coincidentally, Mr. Yosh was Mario (from many, many Nintendo games) this same year, but, alas, no photos...
But we don't just do fictional characters. One Halloween, the theme was Musicians!
Here I am with Mrs. Orcutt, this time representing the band Guns n Roses.
Of course, costumes aren't just for Halloween. Spirit Days need costumes, too.
With Mrs. Allen on Twin Day 2020!
And here we are for 80s-90s Spirit Day a few years ago.
And Rainbow Spirit Day 2017.
