Mrs. Kirsh’s Academic Policies
Grading
Your grades are based on total points accumulated on projects, class work and homework.
Courtesy/Respect
You can expect an S for Satisfactory on your report card if you follow classroom procedures and school rules.
Work Ethic
You can expect an S if you complete all assignments on time, participate in class, are an active learner and do your best.
Anyone caught cheating or plagiarizing can expect a U in Work Ethic that quarter, plus a call home and a 0 on the assignment. You will not be excused from the assignment.
Late Work
It is expected that you will turn your work in on time.
If you are struggling to finish a major assignment or essay, please consult with Mrs. Kirsh ahead of time so we can figure out a way for you to complete it on time. I am happy to allow extensions for extenuating circumstances, should you advocate ahead of time.
Absences
In the case of unexcused absences, you will need to speak to me upon your return, so I can explain what was covered while you were out, and what assignments need to be made up. You will be given at least as many days as were missed to make up assignments.
Please note: it is your responsibility to find out what assignments were missed while absent. If you neglect to find out what was missed, and never turn in an assignment, you run the risk of being given a zero for that assignment.
Mrs. Kirsh’s Classroom Procedures
We have a limited amount of TIME together, so....
● You are expected to be standing outside the classroom when the bell rings. You are to make eye contact with Mrs. Kirsh as you enter the classroom.
● Mrs. Kirsh—not the bell—dismisses class. Close books and pack up only when given permission to do so.
● You are expected to be in your seat at all other times, with the following exceptions:
1. If you must go to the bathroom, please wait for an appropriate time to ask Mrs. Kirsh. Once you have been given permission, you may go.
2. Students must wait until after instructional time to use the sink or water fountain. Students are welcome and encouraged to keep a water bottle at their desk.
Learning happens when we can FOCUS, so....
● When you are called to attention, all conversation should stop.
● Adopt an alert posture: face forward and sit up straight.
We all share the ENVIRONMENT, so...
● Do not draw on, scratch or otherwise mark these desks.
● Manage your trash, materials and loose papers responsibly.
● Stack books and workbooks neatly in their place.
● Recycle! ☺
Failure to follow procedures and to behave with maturity may result in:
● Teacher/Student conference
● Referral
● Teacher/Parent conference
