Percussion
Daily Required Supplies
For Beginning Band:
Beginning Percussionists should bring to school:
Mallets and sticks: A Vic Firth Education Stick/Mallet Pack EP2 or a stick bag and the equivalent sticks and mallets included in the EP2 pack: SD1 and SD2 snare sticks, M3 and M6 mallets, and T3 timpani mallets.
See below for items needed for home practice.
All Bands Percussionists: For home practice, all percussionists also need:
- for home practice: a Real Feel practice pad (see steveweissmusic.com)
- for home practice: a practice xylophone, practice marimba, or practice orchestral bell set (practice bell sets are cheaper, but they can sound shrill and unpleasant). Rental marimbas are available from West Valley Music.
Some people choose to get a larger education kit, such as one of these, listed by Steve Weiss Percussion.
Mustang and Advanced Band Percussionists should also bring brass bell mallets, general and staccato timpani mallets, and a chromatic pitch pipe to band every day. The brass bell and general timpani mallets can be bought separately or as part of a mallet pack, such as the Model BDS1 from Mike Balter.
