  • Sight-reading

Audition Scales

All 12 major scales for your instruments (from this scale page), and the chromatic scale, memorized, played as written with the metronome set to at least 92 to the quarter note. Print out the pages for your instrument for practice.

NOTE: One octave scales are listed under "Concert Band." Two octave scales are listed under "Symphonic Band." Play at least one octave, as listed under "Concert Band." Only attempt two octaves if you can play both octaves smoothly and in time with the metronome at 92 to the quarter note. Those who can play two octaves well get extra points.

For the chromatic scale, play at least one octave (from this scale page). If you can play another octave well, play two octaves. Slur all notes in chromatic scale. Chromatic scale should be memorized and played as written on the scale sheet with the metronome, at least 92 to the quarter note.
