Dr. Steven Isoye is the Chair of the Illinois State Board of Education, appointed by Governor Pritzker, and a lifelong advocate for innovative education and leadership. Over his career, he has served as a teacher, principal, and superintendent, inspiring countless students and educators across Illinois. He began as a science teacher, utilizing a “constructivist” method of teaching, which emphasizes student-led inquiry, at schools such as Deerfield High School, The Latin School of Chicago, and Loyola Academy.
Dr. Isoye later became principal of Maine East High School, where he was named Illinois High School Principal of the Year in 2010, and served as superintendent for both Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 and Niles Township High School District 219. Recognized as Illinois Teacher of the Year in 1998 and twice awarded the Illinois Science Teachers Association’s Award of Excellence in Teaching, he is widely regarded as a leader in education innovation.
Dr. Isoye has also served on the Board of Trustees for the Illinois Math and Science Academy for over two decades.
