DuKane Lit Fest

Coming to a school near you in 2026!
South Spoken participates in multiple writing and arts related events each year. Our biggest by far, is the DuKane Literary Festival. Lit Fest is a huge, conference-wide writing competition with multiple categories as followed: written poetry, spoken-word poetry, short fiction, personal narrative/college essay, descriptive sketch, and dramatic scene. Every original submission is first looked over carefully by our school judges, who narrow down finalists based on the category requirements and then send them to the host school’s judges for the final competition. The day of the final competition, all finalists are able to get field-tripped out to the host school of the year (for 2026, it will be........ US!) where they can hear from an experienced keynote speaker, attend a few really fun writing workshops, and hear all the winners in each category get revealed. Students are able to work together to foster a sense of community in the world of creativity and it's a way for students to showcase their accomplishments with others while receiving impactful feedback from experts.
This year, we received record numbers of submissions AND numbers of awards won at the event, but we want to keep growing! Part of being a writer is being brave enough to be vulnerable and share your work, and DuKane Lit Fest is a safe space to do so. Next year, since South is hosting, we would love as many members of our student body to submit and participate as possible. Please reach out to our team if you have any ideas or suggestions for Lit Fest 2026 -- We're so excited! Everyone has a story to tell, and this is the perfect opportunity for you to tell yours :)
