South Spoken aims to showcase and highlight the literary and artistic works of students at our school, as well as to provide a platform for students to express themselves. Through this collection of works, we hope that students will be emboldened to ignite their own artistic passions and share them with others.
Meet Our Team!
Hello everyone! I am a junior at Wheaton Warrenville South and the president/editor-in-chief of South Spoken. I also do Cross Country, Track and Field, and Model United Nations. I love writing because it's a wonderful outlet to express the most earnest emotions and to remind us that all our voices can be so powerful. My favorite genre to write is poetry and my favorite type of books to read are fantasy/dystopian. My other hobbies include running, looking at specimens under a microscope, walking my dog, listening to Niall Horan, crocheting, and making new friends! In the future, I want to major in biology to become a veterinary cardiothoracic surgeon, but I know that I will always be a writer at heart.
I am a junior at South and the secretary of South Spoken, elected to this position due to my obsession with organization, as seen in my pinterest boards and Notion. I created all the meeting notes, food forms, and kept track of our meetings. I joined South Spoken because of my love for writing, and I have been participating in the Dukane Literary Festival since my freshman year. I love reading and I’m very engaged in my local library and with the librarians there. Other extracurriculars that I do include badminton, cross country, speech, Sinfonia (orchestra), and Community School of the Arts. In my free time, when I’m not practicing my viola or reading fantasy books, I’m listening to Tate McRae.
Hi!! I am a junior at Wheaton Warrenville South and the Social Chair for the club this year. This basically means I plan all of our fun events and hangouts where we eat, discuss, and write! I love reading and writing all things romance, one of the many reasons why I joined South Spoken. You’ll often find me lost in the pages of a dystopian romance novel while sipping on an iced mocha (which I probably shouldn’t be drinking…) surrounded by Jellycats. I am a three-year Varsity Speech Team member and take part in most of the theater productions at South. For speech I do a lot of comedic as well as narrative writing and then get to perform my own pieces, which is a blast! I also write a lot of music as a way to express myself through a creative outlet. I plan on becoming an English teacher one day but who knows what the future has in store!
I am a Junior within South Spoken. I enjoy composing music for South Spoken, and I enjoy writing short stories and poetry. Composing music may not seem like a traditional part of SS, but they are extremely welcoming of artistic ideas of any kind. I continue to compose outside of the club, and you would usually find me on a walk or hike outside, if I am not inside playing piano and the violin. I also enjoy photography and photo editing.
Hey there! I am a Junior at Wheaton Warrenville South High School, and proud member of South Spoken. I was drawn to South Spoken because of the shared passion for writing, collaboration (and the allure of donuts, of course). Since I am a home-body at heart, most of my free-time is spent doing ceramics, making candles, or playing viola. When spotted in the wild, I can often be found thrifting, going for a jog, or simply just enjoying nature. I currently teach private viola lessons, assistant teach at local elementary schools, and attend Wheaton College's Community School of the Arts, with the hope to pursue a career in music education.
I am a junior at Wheaton Warrenville South and a member of South Spoken. Playwriting has always interested me because I enjoy developing plot and establishing relationships between characters. Similarly, I am involved in several plays and musicals, alongside Forensics (Speech), Model United Nations, and competitive drama. Additionally, I recently became a Co Editor In Chief for South’s newspaper, The Pride. Outside of school, I spend my time reading, writing jokes, and refereeing soccer games. I hope to attend college after my senior year (and continue to write scripts on the side).
