According to the California Department of Education, “Expanded Learning refers to before and after school, summer, and intersession learning experiences that develop the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of students. Expanded Learning should be hands-on, engaging, student-centered, results-driven, involve community partners, and complement learning activities in the regular school day/year."
The After School Education and Safety Expanded Learning Program is a grant-funded program through the CA Department of Education, Expanded Learning Division. We are required to engage in CQI- Continuous Quality Improvement, where we collect feedback from our program stakeholders.
The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) provides funding for afterschool and summer school enrichment programs for transitional kindergarten through sixth grade.
“Expanded learning” means before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. It is the intent of the Legislature that expanded learning programs are pupil-centered, results driven, include community partners, and complement, but do not replicate, learning activities in the regular schoolday and school year.

Aliso ExLP Quality Improvement process follows the state’s guidance of an Assess-Plan-Improve cycle. The implementation plan is described below and meets the competencies of the state’s CQI plan, using the 12 Quality Standards for Expanded Learning Programs in California. By regularly reviewing data from a variety of sources, we can identify any trends, as well as strengths, and areas of improvement under each of the 6 Point-of-Service Quality Standards, and the 6 Programmatic Quality Standards.
