Kim Who? is an original musical created by Director Brittany Buffo. The play follows two sisters from Minnesota in a love triangle, Sally and Kim. Kim, played by Anne Hodges, is determined to reinvent herself as a cool kid in her new school, Sally, her intelligent sister played by Sibley Smith, knows who she truly is. The two sisters come into conflict when Hugo, portrayed by William Rose, comes into the picture. Kim is smitten by Hugo and wishes to date him, but Hugo wants to have Sally be his girlfriend so she could help him get good grades to avoid summer school.
Hugo devises a plan to use Kim to get closer to Sally. The play resolves at the pi day competition at their school, where Kim’s friends find out who she really is, and feels scornful because of her lies. In the end, Kim learns, in the words of her sister Sally, “honesty is the best policy,” and Hugo fails in his plan.
The play did incredibly well with choreography and emotion for a middle school play, and it had a clear morale. The songs were performed by actors that did not play the characters, which broke immersion. In conclusion, a quote from William Rose perfectly sums up the opinion on the play, “I liked it, although it was cheesy.”

Shout Outs!
by Olivia Ford
At the beginning of this month, CMS presented a musical show named “Kim Who?” Students helped create the script and added many fun details behind the scenes. We added songs from various other musicals like Rapunzel, Wicked, and Charlie Brown. We included modern themes and trends that helped our audience relate to the show. Our director, Ms. Buffo, decided to double cast the musical, which means our main characters would have different people acting and another person singing for them. Our 3 main characters were Hugo, played by William Rose, Kim, played by Annee Hodges, and Sally, played by Sibley Smith. William and Sibley both sang for themselves, but the alternate singers for Kim were Anne Briggs and Olivia Ford. In the Greek Chorus, there was Edie Barca-Hall, Jana Helali, Charlotte Beiderwell, Charlotte Grandstaff, Beatrice Hodges, Ella Sullivan, and Luna Tang. Hudson Healy, Rafael Valensuela, Olivia Ford, Sibley Smith, Anne Briggs, Carmel Raphaelli, Katherine Peterson, and Yara Shahi all performed in duets in various songs like “A Musical” and “Surface Pressure”. William Rose, Hudson Heley, Rafael Valensuela, and Theodore Buffo all performed in the song “Dancing Through Life” from the musical “Wicked”.
Al Lopez, Katherine Peterson, Yara Shahi, Anne Briggs, Carmel Rephaeli, Charlotte Grandstaff, Rosi Mahaffey Chapman, and Sibley Smith performed in “Razzle Dazzle”, an amazing demonstration of how people reinvent themselves for their peers. Then, during “Telephone Hour” Eleni Brand, Carmel Rephaeli, Ella Sullivan, Olivia Ford, Anne Briggs, Charlotte Grandstaff, Rose Mahaffrey, Sibley Smith, Hudson Heley, Theodore Buffo, William Rose, and Rafael Valensuala all portrayed a modern version of a scene from the musical “Bye Bye Birdie”. Finally, I would like to shout out our tech crew. Blake Brockmann, Trey Simon, Kaya Kang, and Isla Godsey all helped out backstage while Ocean DeMars, Felix Pearson, and Eli Leonard helped with sound, light, and the follow spot. Congratulations to everyone in this performance and thank you to everyone who came to support!
