Design & Technology at Curwen Primary School provides children with exciting and authentic design challenges that provide the opportunity to apply skills from the wider school curriculum to real life contexts. Children develop the confidence to critically evaluate the designed and constructed products around them, becoming active citizens, rather than passive consumers, of the world around them.
Structures
Here are some images of year groups taking part in structural projects
For this project Year 6 designed board games using their cross-curricular knowledge from their Electricity topic in Science. They then designed a handle to complete their game with the support from computer aided design, which they later printed on the 3D printer.
For this project Year 5 used dowels and the 3D printer to create wind turbines which links to their sustainability topic in Geography. They carefully used DT resources to put together their final products.
For this project Year 4 designed book lights using their cross-curricular knowledge from their Electricity topic in Science. This realistic project encouraged them to do more reading before bed time.
For this project Year 3 linked their product to their class reading text: Charlie and the Chocolate factory. They created packaging for the Wonka chocolate bar, creating a window in the packaging allows their audience to see the product before buying it.
For this project Year 2 looked at various vehicles, designed a vehicle to help with public services and explores axles and wheels to complete their final product.
For this project Year 1 used their slides and levers knowledge to create a story book.
