Proceeds Will Benefit Just Friends and RIF Programs
Just Friends, More Alike Than Different: The Just Friends Program, developed by the Cumberland School Volunteers, is a disability awareness program offered to all 4th grade students in Cumberland. The program consists of 4 presentations to each 4th grade classroom. It is presented by trained volunteers and educates students about disabilities through instruction and engaging activities. The topics covered include: blindness, deafness, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning differences and autism. The program promotes an understanding and acceptance of others with differences.
Reading Is Fundamental: For over 35 years, the Cumberland School Volunteers has sponsored the Reading is Fundamental program. The program, offered in all 5 Cumberland Elementary Schools, promotes and supports "student choice" in reading materials. The opportunity to self-select books excites students to read, motivates them to read more, helps them to develop self-confidence and promotes self-discovery. This free book program distributes over 6,000 books to more than 2,000 students each year. Each year, the CSV must raise funds to support the costs associated with the program.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS for OUR PROGRAMS and to Join the Board.
