Mass Casualty Incident Simulation

For the past 5+ years, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs have partnered with Cumberland EMS and the Rhode Island Army National Guard to plan a simulated experience, aimed to train students how to react in the event of a large-scale emergency. In preparation for the simulation, students participate in multiple training sessions during school with our industry partners. Cumberland EMS provides the training in first responder triage.

Students perform a variety of roles, each tailored to their personal CTE program goals and content knowledge. Some sample roles could include (but are not limited to); triage of patients by Biomedical Science, EMT and Law and Public Safety students, design of search and rescue robots by our Engineering students, dramatic reenactment by Theater students and media coverage by our Digital Media & Business students.

Students will work under the guidance of trained professionals who have volunteered to participate and represent a variety of local agencies and local medical professionals.

Capstone Project Expectations 2025

CTE Capstone Projects

Within CTE programming, seniors have the opportunity to develop a Capstone project, alongside the mentorship of an industry professional. These year-long projects are presented at the end of the student's senior year.

A Capstone project is a culminating project at the end of a program or course sequence, designed for students to demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and also to address real-world issues, by applying knowledge gained throughout their learning experiences. These projects can take many forms, and address a variety of issues, all taking place under the guidance of a mentor. In CHS CTE programs, Capstone Projects fall under the Industry Project guidelines, and an industry professional must serve as the student’s mentor.
