Who do I contact if I am having technical issues?

What are the basic computer requirements, including for screen readers, needed to study in the Blackboard learning management system?

Operating Systems

  • Windows 7 and newer

  • Mac OSX 10.6 and newer

  • *Chromebooks will support most functionality in Blackboard, but will not support the use of Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor. Respondus may be required in some courses to take online quizzes, tests and exams.

Mobile Operating System Native App Support

  • iOS 7 and newer

  • Android 4.2 and newer

Computer Speed and Processor

  • Use a computer 5 years old or newer

  • 2GB of RAM

  • 2GHz processor

Internet Speed

  • Minimum of 2.5 Mbps assuming it is not being shared. If multiple users are on the same network, a larger bandwidth will be necessary.

Screen Readers

  • Use Firefox® and Jaws on a Windows® system

  • Use Safari® and Voice on a Mac system

Will I need a webcam and headset or earbuds?

Yes, most classes at Concordia will require students to interact with the professor and fellow students through live video — both a webcam (built-in or external) and headset or earbuds will be required. This is mainly to help develop a learning community based upon relationships, but also to facilitate virtual office hours for faculty and students.

What if I don’t have a computer or Internet access needed for online learning?

  • Access to a computer and the internet will be required in the Fall semester. Students living on campus will continue to have access to the library and the computer labs.

  • Internet companies are making special offers in response to COVID-19, from free to very low cost.


When will my course(s) be ready to access in Blackboard?

Spring 2021 courses are now available in Blackboard.


When will classes move to Dual Mode instruction?

It will depend on guidance from state and local authorities. Please check the CUI Together page for the most up to date information.


How do I access my course(s)?

  • All online courses are conducted in Blackboard can be accessed through My CUI.

  • Your username is your E number and the password you use for your email will also work to get you into Blackboard. If you have any trouble with your password, try resetting it by going to ITS’ Password Manager site. If this does not work, contact IT at 949-214-3175 or email them at ITS@cui.edu.

  • Your available classes are listed under the My Courses heading. Click on the title of your course to enter it.

  • In case you come across training material that says it is for a specific version of Blackboard, Concordia uses Blackboard Learn Original, not Ultra.

How do I communicate with my instructor and classmates?

Each Blackboard course has a Send Email tool. This tool allows you to send emails to your instructor and classmates without needing to know their email addresses. Instructions for using the email tool in Blackboard.

Who do I contact if I have questions about my course?

  • If your question has to do with the content of the course, contact your instructor (see instructions above for how to do this).

  • If you have IT issues related to the course such an error message when accessing the various Blackboard course areas, contact IT at ITS@cui.edu or call 949-214-3175.

Where can I find answers to general Blackboard questions?

Access the Blackboard Learn Help for Students support resources for answers to your questions. Your professor or the ITS Department can also assist you. In case you come across support material that says it is for a specific version of Blackboard, Concordia uses Blackboard Learn (Original), not Blackboard Ultra.

Is Blackboard accessibility (508) compliant?

Yes, Blackboard has several accessibility features and fully supports multiple screen readers. Please see the Accessibility in Blackboard support page for more information. For the best Blackboard experience with your screen reader, use Firefox® and Jaws on a Windows® system. On a Mac® use Safari® and VoiceOver.

Who do I contact if I need accommodations?

If you have an accommodation request based on disability, please contact Disability Access Services via email at DAS@cui.edu.

How do I access tutoring services or the writing studio?

Tutoring Services and the Writing Studio have added video-conferencing and e-tutoring to our WCOnline appointment schedules.

Students can make an appointment for either tutoring or the Writing Studio by going to https://www.cui.edu/studentlife/academic-coaching.

How do I access the library resources?

  • We continue to offer research assistance for students and faculty via email or chat and in-depth consultations online.

  • We continue to offer library instruction online. To schedule an asynchronous or synchronous instruction session, email us at librarian@cui.edu.

  • Check the Remote Library Resources and Information Guide for the library’s digital assistance hours.

  • Borrowing of print books through interlibrary loan has been paused. Borrowing of electronic journal articles and eBook chapters is operating normally.

How do I access career services?

What is Respondus?

Respondus is an online proctoring service to help keep you focused only on the online test you are taking through Blackboard. The exams in your course(s) may or may not require you to use Respondus. Check with your instructor. Support resources for how to use Respondus are available here.
