Calls to Action

Blue Communities Campaign

COUNCIL OF CANADIANS

The Blue Communities Project encourages municipalities and Indigenous communities to support the idea of a water commons framework, recognizing that water is a shared resource for all, by passing resolutions that:

  1. Recognize water and sanitation as human rights.
  2. Ban or phase out the sale of bottled water in municipal facilities and at municipal events.
  3. Promote publicly financed, owned, and operated water and wastewater services.

Water for Life, Not for Profit: The Fight Against Nestle In Ontario

COUNCIL OF CANADIANS

Several parts of Canada have faced long periods of drought in recent years due to climate change. Yet Nestlé, a giant bottled water corporation, continues to pump hundreds of millions of litres of groundwater every year from aquifers in Ontario and British Columbia. In Ontario, Nestlé pays less than one-twentieth of a penny per litre of water and then resells it for up to $2 per bottle. Every year, Nestlé ships hundreds of millions of single-use plastic bottles out of the community for sale all over North America for huge profits.

Say No To Nestle

WELLINGTON WATER WATCHERS

Water for Life, Not Profit is urging Ontario government to:

  1. Say “No to Nestlé” in Wellington County.
  2. Phase out the bottled water industry in Ontario within ten years.
  3. Respect the duty to consult Indigenous communities.
  4. Ensure public ownership and control of water in Ontario.
